SDC student speaks at official UCAS opening ceremony
On September 06, the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) held the yearly opening ceremony at the Yuquanlu campus in Beijing.
The 105 new MSc SDC students took part in the opening ceremony of UCAS. In addition to SDC and UCAS students, the directors and vice-directors from the 117 CAS research institutions were present at the annual opening. This year, SDC-student Christina Pamela Christiansen had the honor of speaking on behalf of the international students at UCAS.
Professor Deng Yong, Executive Vice President of UCAS bid the new students welcome to UCAS and Dr. Bai Chunli, President of CAS, talked about the history of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and UCAS.
Notably, Dr. Bai Chunli focused on the transition from GUCAS to UCAS. The Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences recently changed name to the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, signifying the development of the university as an important and growing university.
SDC-student Christina Pamela Christiansen held a speech focusing on the value of international studies and learning in a globalized context. Christina Pamela encouraged students to leave the safety of their homes, in order to travel the world and seek out new knowledge and unique opportunities. By meeting foreign people and cultures, we become educated in the ways of the world. Christina Pamela believes that learning happens when our conviction is challenged by others and we have to reflect on the truths that we have taken for granted.
